Shahbaz Majeed is a visual storyteller, recorder, and presenter on Landward – BBC Scotland’s farming and countryside programme focussing on issues affecting the community. Shahbaz, an international, multi-award winning photographer, provides the sumptuous images which showcase Scotland on a global platform. Beginning with a behind-the-lens interview, this afternoon’s session will conclude with a visual presentation of glorious images from his stunning books, prefaced by fellow Dundonian, actor Brian Cox.
Biography
Shahbaz Majeed is a multi award-winning photographer. He was born and raised in Dundee, and has been taking pictures for over a decade. He began taking photos as a hobby, capturing some of the sights he was visiting in Scotland and particularly Dundee. His images have been seen around the World showcasing Scotland on an international platform. Shahbaz’s belief is that ‘we as photographers have an important job not just to document our surroundings but to share our work in order to promote the beauty of the World to others. By sharing our knowledge with others, not just to inspire future generations of photographers, but to also push the boundaries and quality of our own work, we will inevitably raise the game for the better.’
Over the years he has won numerous competitions and awards for his work – at local, national and international levels in some of the biggest photography competitions, attracting entries in the hundreds of thousands. His images have graced magazines, brochures, billboards, foyers, walls, buses and even currency on two separate occasions. Some of his clients include prestigious brands such as the V&A, Visit Scotland and Microsoft.
In Scotland in Photographs (2017) Shahbaz has captured the country’s essence in a collection of stunning images. From world-class cities to spectacular wave-battered cliffs and beaches, from majestic mountains to mist-shrouded glens, his book has it covered. In Scotland Revealed (2020) the huge variety of scenery, natural and man-made, that makes Scotland special has been captured. After the success of his first two books, the third in the series, Scotland From the Air, shows off the landscape from an altogether different perspective.
